A novel method for QoS provisioning with protection in GMPLS networks

چکیده
In this paper, a new optimal policy is introduced to determine, adapt, and protect the Generalized MultiProtocol Label Switching (GMPLS) network topology based on the current traffic load. The Integrated Traffic Engineering (ITE) paradigm provides mechanisms for dynamic addition of physical capacity to optical networks. In the absence of such mechanisms, the rejection of incoming requests may be higher. The objective of the proposed policy is to use ITE to set up virtual tunnels at the MPLS and optical level and protect them against failures. This objective is achieved by minimizing the costs involving bandwidth, switching and signaling. The proposed policy is a computationally nonintensive greedy heuristic with good performance. The new policy operates at two levels: the MPLS network level and the optical network level. Numerical results are presented which show the effectiveness of the policy and the achieved performance. q 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Minimum Interference Routing Adding Shared Segment Protection in GMPLS-based Networks*
This paper presents a novel method to enhance minimum interference routing by adding shared segment protection in GMPLS-based networks. Minimum interference routing without maximum flow computation and shared backup schemes are combined to set up novel online restorable QoS routing algorithms. Proposed method also considers protection at the lower optical level by not overprotecting paths, whic...
متن کاملAn Analytical Approach to Shared Backup Path Provisioning in GMPLS Networks
As GMPLS and its supporting set of protocols develop into a viable control plane for optical networks, an important function that they will need to support will be the restoration and protection function that has been a major feature of legacy optical networks. Several models have been proposed for protection with GMPLS using shared backup paths. This previous work has not investigated the effe...
متن کاملMultidomain Optical Networks: Issues and Challenges
Carriers usually deploy traffic engineering (TE) technologies such as generalized multi-protocol label switching (GMPLS)-TE to offer valueadded services. Nevertheless, these technologies are restricted to intra-domain networks, narrowing the scope of potential service offers. Currently, there is a clear demand to extend guaranteed service offers beyond domain boundaries. To support inter-domain...

متن کاملER-LSP setup for multi-service in lambda labeling network
Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) is being applied to optical networks as a means of moving control functionality from the management plane to the control plane, and automating lightpath provisioning and maintenance. GMPLS enables IP networks with Quality of Service (QoS) to be traffic engineered efficiently. However, computation of explicitly-defined paths optimizing network pe...
